Nyasha grew up as an orphan after her parents were assassinated by the Mugabe regime in the 1980s. She and her three siblings (a brother and two sisters) were raised in Harare Children’s Home. She received good schooling and as an active Christian she joined FEBA (a Christian Radio Station in Harare) where she provides counselling and social services to listeners. This has led her into contact with victims from the political violence between the ruling ZANU-PF and MDC political parties following the elections which are widely considered rigged. These encounters with families who have experienced terrible abuses from local militia and government security forces who support ZANU-PF led Nyasha to begin a journey to help assist these families and advocate on their behalf.

Many of these families have had their homes burnt and all their possessions stolen or destroyed. They have moved back into their communities but have nothing and are destitute. There are many thousands of families that have experienced, and continue to experience such abuses of human rights.

She also works with local authorities to establish community development programmes that involve everyone in the community – both survivors and perpetrators – as a means of seeing each other as neighbours rather than foes. These include diary farming, rebuilding homes and schools, market gardening, carpentry and sewing clubs.
